Honeywell VISTA vs Honeywell Lyric Alarm System

In this video, Joe talks about the differences between a Honeywell VISTA System and the Honeywell Lyric Alarm Controller. Both security panels are manufactured by Honeywell, and both systems can be used with the Total Connect 2.0 service. But there are also many big differences between these panels.

There are many cases where a user is looking to buy a new system and is trying to decide between the two. We would recommend the Lyric Controller in most of these situations. The Lyric is a wireless all-in-one system, and it is easier to set up and programming than a hardwired system. The Lyric also comes with more integrated features than a VISTA System. A 345 MHz wireless receiver, a Z-Wave controller and a WIFI card are all built into the Lyric right out of the box. The only real important add-on for a Lyric Controller is a cellular communicator. And as an all-in-one panel, the system itself is also a touchscreen controller.

But unlike the Lyric, a VISTA System will arrive pretty bare bones. A user will need to supply various add-ons for the system to get the most out of it. First and foremost, a keypad will be needed for performing basic system operations. The user should make sure to get an alphanumeric keypad so they can perform deep-level programming. A great keypad to use for this purpose is the Honeywell 6160RF. This keypad also includes an integrated wireless receiver so that wireless sensors can be used with the system. The VISTA System will also require an IP or cellular communicator to access the Total Connect service. And a Z-Wave controller will be needed to use Z-Wave smart home devices.

As a hardwired system, a VISTA Panel will essentially integrate with the building. It will not be as easy to pick up the system and bring it to another location if desired. But the Lyric is easy to disconnect and re-use in another location. And most VISTA Systems do not support as many zones as the Lyric, which supports 128 wireless zones. Only the Commercial VISTA Series Systems, like the VISTA-128BPT and 250BPT can support this many zones. But a VISTA P-Series System, like a 15P, 20P or 21iP will never be able to support that many zones.
