In this video, Joe explains the differences between the Installer Code and the Dealer Code on the Interlogix Simon XTi and Simon XTi-5 Alarm Systems. These two system codes are basically used for the same purposes, but there are a few things that the Dealer Code can do that the Installer Code cannot.

Both the Installer Code and the Dealer Code are set to 4321 by default on these systems. These two codes can both be changed individually. But once they have been changed, they can never be set to the exact same four digit code unless the panel is defaulted. The only way to have the Installer and Dealer Codes set to the same value is to keep them both at their default of 4321.

As far as functionality goes, the Dealer Code can be used to change itself, adjust the number of digits in a system code, change the downloading phone number, lock the phone, adjust the phone numbers, adjust the reporting numbers and adjust hardwire zone one. The Installer Code cannot perform any of these functions. But otherwise, the Installer Code and Dealer Code are both the same.

We recommend keeping the Installer Code and the Dealer Code at the default values so that the user does not become locked out of programming latest. If a user were to lose their Installer Code or Dealer Code and they weren't set to default, then a factory reset may need to be performed to get access to programming.

Please note that neither the Installer Code nor the Dealer Code can be used to disarm the Simon XTi or Simon XTi-5 Systems. Also, while the Dealer Code can change the Installer Code, the Installer Code is unable to change the Dealer Code. Users should make sure to keep this in mind.
