With the rise of earthquakes shaking the world, some people have decided it’s time for a new to stay protected should an earthquake happens while in their sleep. On this episode we bring you the earthquake bed.

Believed to be a good idea by a Russian inventor, the earthquake bed is one that is armed with a motion sensor when activated will drop those sleeping in the bed into a lower compartment. The bed folds down on itself creating a strong barrier above the people designed to withstand debris falling onto it. This is made possible by the reinforced metal frame that can withstand tremendous force as shown in this test. What isn’t explained is what happens if one has an arm or leg dangling over the side, how sensitive it is to motion, what is costs and how one gets out. This video shows an escape door in the front but if debris is blocking that door how someone is supposed to access the supplies at the base of the bed is unclear. Essentially this bed could save one’s life or end up being a steel coffin. Able to be custom decorated to fit your home’s decor somehow I don’t think most people interested in a bed like this would care about how the bed looks.
