With the evolution of lithium-ion batteries and led technology headlamps that were once a big bulky light mounted on a helmet have become something small, light and immensely bright.
On this episode we bring you ThruNite Th30.

Sporting a design unlike other headlamps on the market, the new ThruNite Th30 has an adjustable elastic head mount but the light is detachable. ThruNite kindly sent me one to test out for myself. Outfitted with a metal clip and having a light the points 90 degrees in relation to the shaft, this headlamp can be conveniently attached to one’s belt or backpack for easy shoulder or waist level lighting. The blinking SOS mode can come in handy too if you’re a cyclist stuck riding at night with no light, simply clipping this light to your jacket or backpack front or back will give you some much needed visibility on the road.

Equipped with a 3100 mah rechargeable 18650 battery this light has more than enough power for whatever function it’s being used for. Popular applications being hiking, backpacking, camping or anything outdoorsy, it also makes a great body mounted light for diy or home construction projects.

Featuring 7 modes of light being low, medium-low, medium, high and Turbo… ya that’s bright, it also has SOS as mentioned earlier and firefly. Typical needs of a bright light would utilize the high mode with 1275 lumens which lasts for 90 minutes, dropping down to medium at 352 lumens will yield 5 hours of continual use, Turbo on the other hand can output 3350 lumens for only 1.5 minutes as the light heats up. The Th30 has a max beam distance of 508 feet or 155 meters, is impact resistant to 5 feet or 1.5 meters and is waterproof to 6.5 feet or 2 meters.

Headlamps you’ll find online will usually will either be these small ones with a single light. While they don’t weight much the light produced is very weak and they operate on triple A batteries. The other option are these multi light headlamps which are rampant all over amazon. It seems most of these lights advertise a lumen output that isn’t even relatively close to the light they produce. This one I have claims to output 5000 lumens but when compared to the Thrunite Th30 it isn’t even close in brightness. Thrunite has hit the sweet spot with this headlamp with weight and brightness, when compared to the multi bulb head lamp we can see it’s a weight difference of 282 grams vs 175 grams.

We hope you found this review of the ThruNite Th30 useful.
