10. 7 Pot Barrackpore - 1,000,000 SHU
Grown around the town of Chaguanas in Trinidad and Tobago this spherical red pepper has many pepper relatives that grow in this region. Coming in with a lot of heat and a nice fruity flavour, the taste will be enjoyable for some for the first 15 to 20 seconds before the mounting inferno becomes too much.

9. Ghost Pepper - 1,041,427 SHU
Hailing from the northeastern states of India this pepper while commonly called the ghost pepper is also referred to as Bhut jolokia, ghost chili, u-morok, red naga, naga jolokia and ghost jolokia. The reason for the many names of this pepper is that they were given a different name in each region of India they were cultivated.

8. Naga Viper - 1,349,000 SHU
Cultivated in the United Kingdom, the immensely hot and rare Naga Viper pepper is the result of many years of cross pollination. This hybrid pepper hasn’t had the years need to stabilize as its own plant which has led to some production variance of this pepper.

7. Trinidad Scorpion “Butch T” - 1,463,700 SHU
Being a guiness world record holder in 2011 the Trinidad Scorpion “Butch T” pepper, what a name right, was named after it’s scorpion like stinger. Neil Smith of The Hippy Seed Company received the seeds for the pepper from Butch Taylor or “Butch T” the owner of the Zydecro Farms.

6. 7 Pot Primo - 1,469,000 SHU
Weird pepper names don’t stop here with the number 6 pepper on this list. The 7 Pot Primo pepper was created by horticulturist Troy Primeaux. Having a similar appearance to the reaper which further down on this list, the 7 Pot Primo comes with an iconic spiky tail.

5. 7 Pot Douglah - 1,853,936 SHU
Coming with a few claims to fame of it’s own the 7 Pot Doulah pepper was the hottest pepper in the world that isn’t red until the recent birth of the number 1 pepper on this list. The doulah is also known for not only being hot but having excellent flavour to it.

4. Trinidad Morgua Scorpion - 2,009,231 SHU
Looking like a really hot pepper, the Trinidad Morgua Scorpion is a small red wrinkly pepper rocking in at just over 2 million scoville. Just recently discovered this pepper is native to the lands of Moruga in Trinidad and Tobago.

3. Carolina Reaper - 2,200,000 SHU
The champion for much time, the Carolina Reaper has been dethroned by not only 1 but 2 peppers now. While still holding the official guinness world record which was set in 2013 and retested in 2018 with an additional 71,000 SHU the Carolina Reaper was designed and cultivated for heat.

2. Dragon’s Breath Chili - 2,480,000 SHU
Created by accident the Dragon’s Breath Chili was first grown in Denbigshire in the UK by fruit farmer Mike Smith. Interestingly enough he was trying to cultivate a remarkable pepper plant for the Chelsea Flower show but ended up with the Dragon’s Breath Chili.

1. Pepper X - 3,18,000 SHU
This pepper was first announced by Smokin’ Ed Currie of the Puckerbutt Pepper Company during filming of a First We Feast youtube episode at the Chelsea Market in New York. Made famous by First We Feast’s youtube show “Hot Ones” pepper X is only available for tasting from their retail site, featuring the last dab hot sauce which is continually sold out.
