Honeywell 5800 Sensors and the Interlogix Simon XT?

In this video, Joe discusses how Honeywell 5800 Series Sensors cannot normally be used with the Interlogix Simon XT Security System. This is because the Honeywell 5800 Series Sensors operate at a wireless frequency of 345 MHz, while the Interlogix Simon XT accepts signals at the 319.5 MHz frequency.

A wireless sensor communicates with an alarm control panel by sending out wireless radio frequency signals. In order for the signals to go through successfully, the frequency of the signals sent out by the wireless sensors must be compatible with the alarm system. In the case of the Interlogix Simon XT, the system accepts 319.5 MHz signals. Some of the wireless sensors that use the 319.5 MHz frequency include those manufactured by Interlogix/GE and Qolsys. Any of those sensors will program in directly with the Interlogix Simon XT System.

But the Honeywell 5800 Series Sensors operate at 345 MHz. This means that they will not normally work with the Interlogix Simon XT System. However, it is possible to use a wireless translator to make these sensors compatible with the Interlogix Simon XT. A wireless translator will take the 345 MHz signal sent out by the Honeywell 5800 Series Sensors and convert it into a 319.5 MHz signal that will work with the Simon XT System. A great wireless translator to use for this purpose is the Resolution Products RE524X.

That being said, it's generally recommended that users just use whatever sensors are normally compatible with their systems. Or, they should obtain sensors based on the system they already have. So if a user has an Interlogix Simon XT, they should just obtain 319.5 MHz sensors instead of trying to use 345 MHz sensors with a wireless translator. On the other hand, if a user has several 5800 Series Sensors, they should just obtain a compatible system, such as a Honeywell Lyric Alarm System, Honeywell LYNX Touch Panel or a 2GIG GC2 or GC3.
