Powering the Interlogix Simon XT

In this video, Jorge explains how to supply power to an Interlogix Simon XT Alarm Panel. The security system relies primarily from power provided from its plug-in AC transformer. But if the electricity ever goes out, the system will be able to switch automatically to its backup battery power supply.

The Interlogix Simon XT System uses an Interlogix 60-899 Transformer for plug-in power. This transformer operates at 9VAC 25VA. It plugs into any standard wall outlet, and it has an optional twister for keeping the connection secure. The transformer will keep the system powered in most situations. But if the electricity goes out or if the transformer is disconnected, then the system will switch over to its backup battery for power. The system will continue running on battery power until the transformer power is restored or the battery runs out entirely.

If the system has a low battery, it will let the user know of the situation so that they can take proper action if needed. If the system has just been powered on, then the battery might simply need time to recharge while the system is running on AC power. But if the battery is failing to regain a charge, then it might need to be replaced entirely. In most cases, a backup battery will last for about three to five years before needing to be replaced.

If the system is not plugged-in and the backup battery is either dead or disconnected, then the Simon XT System will shut-off entirely. To restore power, the user must either plug-in the AC transformer, or they must connect a battery that has some power. Once the power for the system has been restored, the system will power back on automatically. Keep in mind that some activities, such as installing a cellular module, should be completed while the system is powered off.
