Adding a Key Fob to an Interlogix Simon XTi & XTi-5

In this video, Jorge shows users how to add a key fob device to an Interlogix Simon XTi or Simon XTi-5. A key fob is a handheld device that allows a user to control their alarm system. Most users utilize key fobs for arming and disarming and for triggering emergency panic alerts on the alarm system.

Security key fobs can offer great convenience for end users when paired with an alarm system. A user can easily keep on of these devices in their pocket, in a purse or in their car. They can then disarm their system before they even enter their property. This can make it so that they do not have to enter any system codes when disarming. Many users will find this as a very practical option that works for their needs. Key fobs also provide the added benefit of allowing the user to trigger an immediate panic in an emergency situation.

However, there is also another way to control a Simon XTi or XTi-5 System without accessing the panel directly. This is done through the Alarm.com service. A user can access Alarm.com through a web browser or by using the Alarm.com Mobile App on an Android or iOS device. In order for this to work, the system will need an active Alarm.com cellular communicator. This also provides the benefit of allowing the system to use reliable and fast cellular connectivity. But the advantage to using a key fob is that a user will not need to enter in any account information when using the device. Of course, it is possible to use both a key fob and Alarm.com with one of these systems.

Each key fob that is used with the system will require its own wireless zone on the panel. If the panel does not have an available wireless zone, then a key fob cannot be used. Any key fob that is used with the system must communicate at a compatible frequency. In the case of Simon XTi and Simon XTi-5, this frequency is 319.5 MHz. A compatible key fob for these systems is the Interlogix 600-1064-95R Micro Key Fob.
