Programming a Door Sensor to the Interlogix Simon XTi or XTi-5
In this video, Joe shows users how to program a door sensor to an Interlogix Simon XTi or XTi-5 Security Panel. A door contact is used to let the Simon XTi or XTi-5 Panel know when a door has been opened. The system will then respond based on the programming settings for that particular system zone.
Most users will get wireless door contacts for use with their Simon XTi or Simon XTi-5. These systems communicate at the 319.5 MHz frequency, and any wireless sensors must also communicate at this frequency in order to be compatible. Wireless door contacts that are manufactured by Interlogix/GE and Qolsys should work with these systems. Once the sensor is activated, it will send a 319.5 MHz signal to the system to let it know that the door has been opened.
Door contacts are very simple in terms of pure operation. They consist of a sensor and an included magnet. The sensor is usually installed on the stationary portion of the door so that it does not move during normal use. The magnet is then placed on the moving part of the door, within a half-inch of the sensor. When the door is opened, the magnet will separate from the sensor. This will cause the sensor to activate and send out its wireless signal to the system.
When programming a door sensor to a Simon XTi or XTi-5, the user will need to assign the zone an appropriate sensor group number. A wireless door sensor will typically use either group type 10 or group type 14. Group 10 is used for entry/exit doors, while group 14 is used for interior doors. The difference between these two options is that interior door contacts with the group 14 setting will not be active when the system is set to arm stay mode. They will only be active when the system is armed away. Additionally, if an entry/exit door with the group 10 setting is activated while the system armed stay or away, the user will be able to disarm the system within an entry delay period before an alarm will occur. But if an interior door contact with group 14 is activated while the system is armed away, an immediate system alarm will occur.
