Door Sensors that Work on the Interlogix Simon XTi & XTi-5

In this video, Joe discusses the door and window contacts that can be used with the Interlogix Simon XTi and Simon XTi-5 Alarm Systems. In most cases, a user will use wireless contacts with these systems. However, the sensors must communicate at the 319.5 MHz frequency that is used by these systems.

Door and window contacts are perhaps the most important sensors used by an alarm system. These sensors let the system know whenever a door or window has been opened. Although it is technically possible to set up a complete security system without door and window contacts, there's very little reason to try and do this. Having the system know when a door or window is opened is one of the biggest benefits to owning a security system. A user can also set up the system to trigger an alarm if a door or window is opened while the system is armed and it is not disarmed within a predetermined entry delay period. This is commonly referred to as an "entry/exit" zone, and it is one of the most commonly used zone types. Another commonly used zone type for doors is the "interior" zone type. This zone type will cause an immediate alarm if the sensor is activated while the system is set to arm away. However an interior zone will be inactive when the system is set to arm stay.

The Interlogix Simon XTi and Simon XTi-5 Alarm Systems both include a wireless receiver that supports sensors at the 319.5 MHz frequency. If the wireless door and window contact does not operate at the 319.5 MHz frequency, then it will not be supported by the system, and it cannot be used. Door and window contacts that work at 319.5 MHz include those from Qolsys and Interlogix/GE. Additionally, a user can used hardwired contacts in one of two ways. These systems have two hardwired terminals on the back for supporting two hardwired door and window contacts. A user can also use a compatible wired to wireless converter, like the Qolsys IQ Hardwire-16, to add additional contacts.
