Setting the Siren Timeout on a Simon XTi & XTi-5

In this video, Jorge shows users how they can adjust the siren timeout period for an Interlogix Simon XTi or Simon XTi-5 Alarm System. The siren timeout period determines how long the system siren remains activate if the system is never disarmed. Once the timeout period expires, the siren will stop.

A siren is a very important component of almost any alarm system. It is basically a loud noisemaker that alerts any building occupants to an emergency situation, such as a burglary or a fire. When a person hears a siren, they should recognize that there is a very serious situation occurring and that they need to take action. This action could include escaping the building, alerting a neighbor or making sure that the appropriate authorities are on their way to the premises.

However, it goes without saying that sirens are very loud. While, they are crucial for alerting people to trouble, they can also be very annoying if they are left to sound indefinitely. Once a siren has done its job of alerting every to the emergency situation, a user will typically want to turn off the siren so that it is no longer causing a disturbance to anyone around them. In most cases, a user would get the siren to stop by disarming the panel. Doing this acknowledges the situation, and it tells the panel to stop producing the siren.

But there are cases where the user does not or cannot access the siren. This could be because there is a potentially hazardous situation inside the building or because the user isn't around to disarm. In these circumstances, the siren timeout period becomes very important. The siren will continue to sound until either the system is disarmed, or it will stop automatically once the timeout period expires. Please note the siren timeout period can also be disabled. In that case, the siren would continue to sound until the system is disarmed or panel is powered down entirely.
