China's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying criticised the United States for imposing sanctions on Russia over Ukraine tensions at a news conference in Beijing on Wednesday. "Since 2011, the US has imposed sanctions on Russia more than 100 times. Has the world changed for the better because of US sanctions? Will Ukraine's problems be solved naturally due to the US sanctions against Russia? We hope that relevant parties can seriously think about it," commented Hua on the sanctions against Russia imposed by the US, following Russia-Ukraine tensions. The spokesperson added that the Chinese government believes "sanctions are never a fundamental and effective way to solve problems"."The key question now is what role does the US play in this crisis, the current Ukrainian tension? It is irresponsible and immoral for someone to accuse others of failing to put out the fire while adding fuel to that fire," she said Hua also dismissed any link between the issues of Ukraine and Taiwan, stating that "some people lack a minimum understanding of the history of the Taiwan issue". Beijing's response comes after US President Joe Biden introduced new sanctions against Russia, following President Vladimir Putin’s recognition of the self-proclaimed republics of Donetsk and Lugansk in the eastern Ukrainian territory of Donbass on Monday.
