Costco's worldwide headquarters are in Issaquah, Washington, a suburb east of Seattle; the company opened its first warehouse in Seattle 36 years ago in 1983.[8][9] Through mergers, Costco's corporate history dates back to 1976, when its former competitor Price Club was founded in San Diego, California.[10][11][12] As of March 7, 2019, Costco had a total of 770 warehouses: 531 in the United States and 4 in Puerto Rico, 100 in Canada, 39 in Mexico, 28 in the United Kingdom, 26 in Japan, 15 in South Korea, 13 in Taiwan, 10 in Australia, 2 in Spain, and 1 in Iceland and France.[13][14]
