San Marcos High School 2003 Chakradar Snare Feature

Got a new pad from #xymox. I haven't bought a new snare pad since I was in high school so I thought I was overdue. This design reminds me of one of my high school drumline shows from 2003 entitled "Rave." The music and this snare feature was composed by Lozell Henderson, my mentor and instructor at the time. I thought it might be nice to try to combine some of the Indian drumming ideas I have been learning with the music of my roots. This is a chakradar in Jhaptaal.

I am accepting students of all levels, ages, and instruments. First lesson is free and discounts are available. No experienced required! It is my belief that music is for everyone. I teach rudimental percussion including quads/tenors and snare drum as well as many world percussion instruments such as Tabla, Atsimevu, Kanjira, Frame Drum, and Riqq. I also teach the extracted language of south and north Indian drumming which includes exercises and ideas that will broaden the rhythmic palette of any instrumentalist. In addition to serving any instrument through a conceptual mind expansion, I teach hand drumming techniques that can be imposed on any percussion instrument.

My teaching style is rooted in a traditional and flexible approach designed to serve the needs and goals of my students. From that, I wish to have a fun and relaxed environment for my students to learn. My approach is positively-minded and geared towards developing your own unique style and voice.

I have been teaching percussion for over 18 years and performing for over 20. I attended the College of Creative Studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara for music composition and I have both a Bachelors and Masters degree from the California Institute of the Arts.
