Bacon Fried Cabbage - Southern Fried Cabbage - 100 Year Old Recipe - The Hillbilly Kitchen

Bacon Fried Cabbage – Irish Bacon Cabbage – Southern Fried Bacon and Cabbage. This makes a delicious side dish with almost everything or can be the main course. This recipe is hundreds of years old and was brought to America by Irish immigrates in the mid 1800’s. Some of whom settled in the mountains of North Georgia and Western North Carolina are found in my family tree.
I remember my Granny making this when I was growing up as a part of big dinners and as dinner. When in season, cabbage is very inexpensive adding the fat from the bacon makes it very filling. In hard times bacon cabbage was a staple and a treat. This heirloom dish will add some delicious variety to your mealtime routine. It is not an ordinary side dish.

½ package Bacon (6 to 8 ounces)
1 Chopped Onion
½ head Cabbage
Salt & Pepper to taste
