Did you know mason bees burrow in tunnels? Wait mason what? The Mason bee isn’t the honey bee, these are different, quite a bit different actually. The honey bee is native to Europe, lives in a hive of which contains a queen bee and worker bees who produce honey for the hive. They all work together in harmony for the collective benefit of the whole and prioritize the queen bee over all other bees. They can be aggressive if threatened, and can cause anaphylactic shock from their venom.

The mason bee is native to north america, has the same lifespan about 4 to 6 weeks, lives alone… a solitary life, has mild venom and won’t cause anaphylactic shock, are gentile, docile, won't sting and a single mason bee can pollinate as much as 100 honey bees.

It turns out solitary bees like the mason bee account for 90% of bees worldwide. Tunnel Nesting Bees account for 30 percent of the 5000 native species of bees in north america which burrow above ground.
