FireFighter Product Overview

In this video, Joe explains the FireFighter Life-Safety Sensor Takeover Module. This device listens for the temporal sound of an activated smoke detector or carbon monoxide sensor. It then sends an alert to a compatible alarm control panel. This way, the panel can go into an alarm and take action.

Many users have existing hardwired life-safety sensors that they somehow want to incorporate with their newer wireless alarm system. Arguably the best way to do this is with a takeover module like the FireFighter. Remember, most wired to wireless converter modules do not support hardwired life-safety sensors. This includes some of the most popular wired to wireless converters on the market like the Honeywell 5800C2W and the Qolsys IQ Hardwire 16-S. Using a FireFighter Takeover Module makes it super easy to integrate your existing hardwired life-safety sensors into your new setup.

The FireFighter Takeover Module is paired with a compatible system like any other wireless sensor. Its Serial Number will need to be provided when configuring the zone. This can be done manually, or it can be auto-enrolled. You will also need to configure all of the other settings for the zone. The sensor is programmed as though it were an actual wireless smoke detector or carbon monoxide sensor. This is typically as a 24-hour zone, in which the sensor will cause an immediate system alarm if it is activated.

Remember, the FireFighter Sensor that is used must be compatible with the system that is used. In order words, it must communicate at a frequency that is accepted by the alarm control panel. There are versions of the FireFighter that operate at 319.5 MHz, 345 MHz and 433 MHz. These are some of the most popular frequencies used with alarm systems. Just make sure the version you choose is compatible with your system!
