Smart Home Items That are Compatible with the Honeywell Lyric
In this video, Jarrett discusses various smart home items that are compatible with the Honeywell Lyric Controller. The system includes a built-in Z-Wave controller, and it is one of the few alarm systems available that is compatible with HomeKit. Users have many great options for smart home devices.
The Lyric Panel itself has an automation menu for controlling programmed Z-Wave devices. But most users will use Total Connect 2.0 or HomeKit their devices. We strongly recommend using both HomeKit and Total Connect 2.0 together. Even if all of your smart home devices are HomeKit-compatible and you use HomeKit for all your automation, you will still want Total Connect 2.0 to receive specific system alert. HomeKit will only provide specific alerts for intrusion zones. You need TC2 for specific alerts from environmental and life-safety zones.
Total Connect 2.0 is great for controlling any Z-Wave devices programmed with the Lyric. The system does not support Z-Wave Plus technology, but you can still use Z-Wave Plus 500-series devices with the panel. If you do, the Z-Wave Plus devices will have the range and battery life of classic Z-Wave devices. Any Z-Wave device can be grouped into a smart scene for automatic operation based on a schedule or with certain system events. You can also pair your Lyric as a secondary controller to a different Z-Wave hub, like Samsung SmartThings. Total Connect 2.0 can still be used to control your Z-Wave devices when the Lyric System is used as secondary controller.
For HomeKit devices, you will use your iOS device for operation. This can be a device such as an iPhone or an iPad. You will create automations through the Apple Home App. Each individual automation can be set for when it can occur, and you can choose which HoneKit device to include in the automation. An automation does not have to be set to trigger based on a schedule. You can also have it set to occur when certain events take place. This can be something involving your Lyric System or another HomeKit device.
Please note that the firmware for your Lyric System should be MR7 or higher to support Apple HomeKit. If your Lyric System needs a firmware upgrade, you can have one pushed down automatically from the AlarmNet Servers. This is very important if you plan on using your Lyric System in conjunction with Apple HomeKit. Also note that for Yale Smart Locks, you must choose between a Z-Wave model and a WIFI model for HomeKit. At the time of this writing, there is no Yale Lock that supports both Z-Wave and HomeKit at the time.
