Why A Legacy IPCAM Won't Work With Total Connect 2.0

In this video, Jarrett explains a problem you might run into when trying to use a legacy IPCAM with Total Connect 2.0. A few years ago, Honeywell updated their TC2 platform to run on HTML5. When this happened, an update was pushed down to legacy IPCAMs to make them compatible. The update is needed.

Any legacy TC2 IP Camera that did not receive the update is essentially bricked and can no longer be used. The most likely reason why a camera wouldn't have received the update is because it was not online and connected with Total Connect 2.0 when the updates were pushed down. A camera had to be online to receive one of these updates.

This updating process is a big reason why these Honeywell Legacy IPCAMs have been discontinued in favor of new and improved models. The new models offer better image quality, and they can receive firmware updates that are released from Resideo. You can view any programmed IP Camera from the Total Connect 2.0 platform.

Remember, a legacy TC2 IP Camera can still be used if it was online to receive the update when Resideo pushed it down. It is only the cameras that did not receive the update that are bricked. Just be careful when buying a used legacy TC2 IP Camera, as there is no easy way to tell if it will work or not without testing.
