Only One Battery Pack Can Be Used in a Lyric Alarm System

In this video, Jarrett from Alarm Grid explains how you can only use one battery pack inside a Honeywell Lyric Alarm Panel at a time. The Lyric Alarm Panel only has one battery port available for a backup battery. And even if it had a 2nd port, then trying to add a second battery would cause issues.

The Honeywell Lyric Alarm System is a wireless all-in-one security system that is used in many homes and businesses for security, life-safety, and automation purposes. This system must remain powered on at all times in order to provide adequate monitoring and protection. That is why the system comes equipped with a backup battery. Whenever AC power from the plug-in transformer is unavailable, the system will automatically switch over to its battery backup. The battery backup provides a temporary source of power until AC power is restored. The standard battery backup option for the Lyric is the Honeywell LCP500-4B, which will keep the system running for up to 4 hours. You can also upgrade to the Honeywell LCP500-24B, which will keep the system running for up to 24 hours.

Many users wonder if they can add a second battery back to the system. The idea is that the second battery back would be able to keep the system running for even longer. Unfortunately, there are a couple of reasons why this wouldn't work. The first is that there is only one available plug-in port on the Lyric System for a backup battery. The second is that the Lyric Backup Battery draws off of AC power to store its charge. If you had two backup batteries that were both feeding off AC power, then it would take away too much power for the system itself to remain running properly. This could result in an AC loss condition for the system. For those reasons, using two backup batteries on a single Lyric Panel is not feasible. If you experience frequent power outages, or power outages that often exceed 24 hours, then your best option is to get a power generator that will keep your Lyric System running during power outages.
