In this video, Joe from Alarm Grid explains how the Honeywell Home 6290W Touchscreen Keypad does not have a built-in wireless receiver. This means that this keypad cannot communicate with any wireless peripheral devices. However, the 6290W does utilize a WIFI connection for receiving useful updates.

When shopping for a keypad for a Honeywell VISTA Security System, many users try and find keypads that utilize some type of wireless communication for connecting with other devices and adding new features for the system. For example, by adding a Honeywell 6160RF to your VISTA Panel, you can start using 345 MHz wireless sensors from the Honeywell 5800 Series with the system. Another example is the Honeywell Tuxedo Touch, which allows the system to support Z-Wave home automation sensors.

The Honeywell Home 6290W Keypad is strictly used for controlling a VISTA System. It does not have a built-in receiver, and it cannot support any wireless peripheral devices. But you can still use the 6290W once you add a receiver to the system. The Honeywell VAM is a great standalone Z-Wave controller. And for 345 MHz security sensors, you can just add a Honeywell 5883H.

The one thing you will want to keep in mind if you are using a Honeywell Home 6290W Keypad is that it will take up some of the power for the system. This is imnportant if you are using lots of other devices, as they will also require system power. If you find that you have exceeded the maximum available power supply for the system, then you will need to add an external power supply. The Honeywell Home 6290W can be wired using such a power supply so that it does not take up power from the panel. Just keep in mind that you will need to make sure the connections are correct, or else the keypad will not work properly.
