Using Motions with a Qolsys IQ Panel 2

In this video, Jorge from Alarm Grid explains how you can use motion detection sensors with the Qolsys IQ Panel 2 System. The type of motion sensors you use with the IQ2 will depend on whether your panel is an original Qolsys IQ Panel 2 Alarm System or a newer Qolsys IQ Panel 2 Plus Security System.

A passive infrared (PIR) motion sensor is a device that alerts a security system upon detecting the changes in infrared (IR) energy that occur with movement. Every person and object gives off a small amount of IR energy. A motion sensor can actually detect this IR energy when a person or object comes within the sensor's field of view. If the sensor detects a substantial change in IR energy then it will know to alert the system to the activity. How the system responds will depend on the sensor's programming settings and the system's current arming state.

The original Qolsys IQ Panel 2 can support wireless 319.5 MHz motion sensors. With the newer Qolsys IQ Panel 2 Plus, things are a little more complicated. All versions of the Qolsys IQ Panel 2 Plus can support wireless PowerG Motion Sensors from DSC. Additionally, each Qolsys IQ Panel 2 Plus can support one (1) of three (3) possible legacy sensor frequencies. There are 319.5 MHz, 345 MHz, and 433 MHz versions of the Qolsys IQ Panel 2 Plus.

Make sure you determine which legacy RF frequency your IQ Panel 2 Plus System supports if you decide to use non-PowerG Motion Sensors with the system. However, PowerG Motion Sensors represent arguably the best option for the system. This is because PowerG Motion Sensors offer an impressive wireless range of up to 2,000 feet away from the IQ Panel 2 Plus in open air, and they utilize 128-bit AES encryption for enhanced wireless security.
