Honeywell 5808W3: Program Low temp to Lyric
In this video, Sterling from Alarm Grid shows you how to program the low temperature detection function for a Honeywell 5808W3 Smoke and Heat Detector. In addition to the smoke and heat detection function of the 5808W3, this sensor also provides low temperature detection, which is also sometimes referred to as freeze detection.
The purpose of freeze detection is to let you know if the heater in your home or business has failed. If this occurs during the winter months, then it's possible that the pipes in the building might freeze. This can result in the pipes in the building becoming frozen, which can lead to very costly damage. By having a low temperature or freeze detector set up with your system, you can receive alerts before this happens so that you can take proper action. One of the most important aspects of the Honeywell 5808W3 is that it sends a system alert at a low temperature of 43 degrees Fahrenheit or lower, which gives the user some time to take action before water begins to freeze at 32 degrees Fahrenheit and lower.
Remember that the Honeywell 5808W3 is a multi-function sensor. Each function is enrolled with the system using the same Serial Number, but a different Loop Number. The Serial Number helps the Lyric System identify the sensor itself, while the Loop Number identifies which function is being monitored. In the case of the Honeywell 5808W3, the Loop Number for low temperature detection is Loop Number 3.
The Honeywell 5808W3 is part of the Honeywell 5800 Series lineup, with sensors that operate at a wireless frequency of 345 MHz. The Lyric is backwards compatible with all one-way 5800 Sensors, including the 5808W3. The Lyric is also compatible with its own lineup of encrypted sensors called the Honeywell SiX Sensors. However, there is actually no Honeywell SiX Series Sensor with low temperature or freeze detection. Therefore, looking back to the Honeywell 5800 Series for a sensor like the Honeywell 5808W3 or the Honeywell 5800PIR-COM is a great option.
