The Number of Z-Wave Devices Supported on the 2GIG GC3 or GC3e

Note: While the maximum Z-Wave device limit for a 2GIG GC3 or GC3e is 232 Z-Wave devices, it is usually recommended that you use fewer Z-Wave devices with the system. This is because using a very large number of Z-Wave devices can result in unstable performance for the system. We don't have a set recommendation for how many Z-Waves you should use, but just understand that the more Z-Wave devices you use, the more likely your system is to experience unstable performance.

In this video, Michael from Alarm Grid explains the Z-Wave device limits for a 2GIG GC3 or 2GIG GC3e System. Like most Z-Wave controllers, the limit is 232 Z-Waves devices for local control. However, Alarm.com has a smaller limit of 122 Z-Wave devices for remote operation and inclusion with Alarm.com smart scenes. This is important if you have the system monitored and want to use Alarm.com for remote Z-Wave control and smart scenes that include Z-Wave devices. Most users will not come close to reaching even this smaller limit of 122 Z-Wave devices, but it is important to keep in mind if you intend on setting up a larger Z-Wave network.

A Z-Wave Plus controller is built inside of every 2GIG GC3 and 2GIG GC3e System. This Z-Wave controller is what allows you to set up a home automation network for use with the system. When you add a Z-Wave device with the GC3 or GC3e, you will be able to control it locally with at the panel. You can also control it remotely from the Alarm.com Mobile App or website, provided that the system is monitored with access to Alarm.com, and you have not reached the 122 Z-Wave device limit for Alarm.com. However, when you add a 123rd Z-Wave device to the panel, or any Z-Wave device beyond that number, that Z-Wave device will not be pushed over to Alarm.com.
