**It's worth noting in this study that LARVAL stage ticks are used. Only Nymph stage ticks feed on possoms, and in THIS study, researchers had trouble getting the larva to stay attached to the possom hosts. Considering how tiny larval ticks are (nearly impossible to spot with the naked eye) researchers only looked for FED larval ticks, tick which are more easily seen with the naked eye. Researchers incorrectly assumed the possom had thus eaten all the ticks, and NOT taken into consideration that the ticks simply crawled off and away and DIDN'T feed . . . or worse, crawled off to the other animal hosts, a better suited food source.
