The spiders in this video were involved in a study on the role vision plays on orientation and "zonal recovery" (finding shore) when displaced onto the water. Spiders in the control treatment had a drop of paint placed on top of the cephalothorax. The other treatment group had non-toxic paint covering their eyes. Visual cues are critical for shore-finding in these spiders.
