16 February 2022 Despite an emergency order granted by Canada's federal government, a group of former Canadian police officers and a military veteran representing protestors who have blockaded the country's capital city say they would not heed requests to cease the protest.
"All Canadians should be surprised, regardless of their political views, that the federal government has resorted to such an extreme and authoritarian measure as the Emergencies Act, and that the government wants to use force against a peaceful demonstration," said Danny Bulford, a former Royal Canadian Mounted Police officer who worked on a security detail for Prime Minister Justin Trudeau at one point.
More protestors were urged to come to Ottawa by the three, who insisted that they have the right to peacefully congregate,  and that the group at large is not responsible for violence or other criminal acts.
