On board the cargo ship, which caught fire on the way from Germany to the United States, there were more than a thousand luxury cars of the Porsche and Lamborghini brands. The crew has abandoned the ship, it is drifting in the area of the Azores

The cargo ship Felicity Ace, which was traveling under the Panamanian flag from Germany to the United States and caught fire on February 16 in the Atlantic Ocean, transported several thousand Volkswagen Group cars, Bloomberg reports.

Volkswagen Group produces Volkswagen, Porsche, Audi and Lamborghini cars — and the cars of all these brands were on Felicity Ace.

According to the German newspaper Handelsblatt, which refers to Volkswagen's internal documents, there were 3,965 Volkswagen, Porsche, Audi and Lamborghini cars on board. Officially, the concern has not yet named the exact number of cars that Felicity Ace transported.

Porsche spokesman Luc Vandezande told Bloomberg that the company estimates that about 1,100 of its cars were on board the Felicity Ace at the time of the fire. Now American customers who were expecting to receive cars are being contacted by their dealers. He also added that the company was relieved to learn that all crew members are healthy and safe.

A representative of the American division of Lamborghini refused to answer Bloomberg how many sports cars were on board the ship, but only said that he was in contact with the shipping company. Audi also told Reuters that there were these cars on the ship, but did not specify their number.

The cargo ship caught fire in the Atlantic Ocean on the evening of February 16, near the Azores Islands, which belong to Portugal. The Portuguese Air Force reported that all 22 crew members of Felicity Ace were rescued — they were evacuated from the burning ship by helicopter. What caused the fire is not yet known.
