The Greats | Ultrakill

Welcome to the first episode of a new series on this channel called.. “The Greats”. It'll chronicle what I feel are some of the objectively best titles in their respective categories. Whether it be a platformer.. retro action game.. triple A, indie, or otherwise. Nothings off the table.. though I'm going to focus less on titles that moved the landscape forward with revolutionary ideas like z- targeting and popularizing the open world, otherwise this list could end up looking like so many other “greatest of all time” lists out there. It's still pretty similar to a review but it'll zone in more on what makes the title great rather than the entire broad picture. To put it bluntly Ultrakill reminded me that it was “ok” to have fun in a first person video game. Combat is all about moving really fast and hitting back really fast. With how reserved and devoid of color lots of triple A titles are out there it's refreshing to see something like this, channeling the first line of 3D boomer FPS's Ultrakill uses a tried and true low poly art style and decent color work to boot. It's a style you've likely seen already in not only the studios piror game Dusk but other indies as well. Far as how it actually is to play... the move set you're equipped with props you up perfectly to be an acrobatic deliverer of death raining down projectiles and melee strikes on your opponents.
