My grandmother kept the family together while the country was falling apart during the 90's hyperinflation in Romania. We often wondered how was she so tough and able to keep her calm until she started sharing some stories herself.
My grandfather was a prisoner of war while my grandmother was expecting their first child, my uncle. Their house was occupied by soldiers and the family was forced to live in the bunker for some time. Some German soldiers even brought milk regularly to the bunker because they knew there was a pregnant lady living there with her family. But when the air raids happened all the neighbors and relatives would flee their own houses and seek shelter with her, eventually forcing her and her father out. Forced to sit on top of their own bunker looking from the hillside at the devastation happening below. When my sister asked her how did she feel sitting there with her father seeing the flairs and the bombardment . She said she found true peace.
I hope you can distill some wisdom for yourself from this short clip.

I don't have a photograph of the actual bunker, it was in a bad shape at the end of the 90's but it was still being used as a root cellar by my aunt. I picked a photo for the thumbnail that would be close to how I remember seeing it but it went deeper than the one in the photo. It was much more subtle not sticking out of the ground that much..
The property later got sold. But the stories remained.
