The 10 Commandments

Various groups work hard to make sure the 10 commandments cannot be displayed in schools or any public place under the guise of defending the first amendment. But is there another motivation?. what is so threatening or controversial about the 10 commandments? How do they apply to the church today and what is their relevance in our culture?
