International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach said it was "cold" to see how "cold" Kamila Valieva was treated by her Russian coach after the failures in her figure skating program at the Beijing Winter Olympics.

Valieva, weighed down by a doping scandal and doubts about the wisdom of allowing her to compete, finished fourth on Thursday after several errors.

There were no hugs or comfort for the 15-year-old from coach Eteri Tutberidze when she immediately got off the ice, instead she was asked: “Why did you stop wrestling?”

Tutberidze, whose training methods were already in the spotlight, hugged the young Russian woman, waiting for her result. But moments before, he demanded an answer: "Why did you let him go? Explain to me why?"

Valieva is the subject of an anti-doping investigation after testing positive for the drug trimetazidine for angina pectoris. The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) also said it would be investigating Valieva's entourage, including coaches, doctors and other adults who surrounded her.
