Why Marxists Hate the Nuclear Family and Work to Undermine It

Marx and Engels in their more famous works describe a Communist society in which the State would not be involved in marriage and children would be raised in a communal fashion. Where did this reasoning come from? Engels, in his book, "The Origin of Family, Private Property and the State," describe primitive man, communal living, and group marriage, and how division of labor and changes in the means of production, created the family unit. A unit he viewed as an institution of slavery. This is why radical left-wing groups attack the traditional family and undermine parental rights.
