Fishing Boathouses | These Baits Are Like Candy For Bluegills and Crappies!

Early Spring, Panfish such as Bluegills, Sunfish and Crappies seek out the first warm water they can find. I stumbled upon this little technique, casting in the opening of a boathouse that didn't have a boat in it. There were many fish schooled up in this boathouse.

I was using Berkley Gulp Alive Fish Fry and a Mr. Twister curly tailed grub with a jig head.

Crappies like to feed upwards so having a shallow presentation, under a slip float was the key, just twitching the bait a couple times and letting it sit. Often times, the fish will bite the bait on the drop after a cast and can bite very subtly at times, so watch out for any little movements because they can just swim with the bait and not pull the float down. Panfish are a great way to get kids interested in the sport but also, they are extremely tasty!
