This 8-part series is a book study of Giles Milton's excellent work, "Checkmate in Berlin," interspersed with Scott Dreyer's commentary and explanation. Part 6 delves into the fascinating aspect of culture. The occupying Russians tried to convince Germans that since Russia had produced Chekhov and Pushkin, and Germany had produced Beethoven and Goethe, the 2 nations had more in common with each other than with the uncouth gum-chewing Americans. The Soviets used newspapers, radio, and the performing arts to brainwash the Germans to accept Soviet domination.
