During question period the Conservative Party upheld their parliamentary obligation to hold the Prime Minister accountable for enacting the Emergencies Act. Instead of answering questions, he resorted to accusing Melissa Lantsman, a Jewish Member of Parliament and a descendant of Holocaust survivors, of supporting those waving swastikas. There were many on the opposition side of the House who immediately came to her defence. However, the Liberal benches were silent on the Prime Minister’s demeaning comments. Prime Minister Trudeau should immediately apologize and focus on unifying the nation rather than stoking divisions for political gain.
"Positive, optimistic, hopeful vision for public life isn't a naive dream. It could be a powerful force for change. If Canadians were to trust their government their government needs to trust them too": Justin Trudeau, 2015.
“The small fringe minority of people who on their way to Ottawa, who are holding unacceptable views that they’re expressing, do not represent the views of Canadians who have been there for each other, who know that following the science and stepping up to protect each other is the best way to continue to ensure our freedoms, our rights, our values as a country,” Trudeau said about his countrymen.
The lack of apology was appalling and showed grave disrespect . We must determine to refrain from personal insults and attacks that result in divisive activity that we are seeing among governments. They were elected to represent all people and respect the rights of human dignity and choice. Hopeful we can resolve the hate that is being perpetuated by those that should be leading us to peaceful resolution.
