Created on an upgraded MQB L (extended) platform with an increased share of high-strength (HTS) and ultra-high-strength (UHTS) steel, it will be enriched with all hi-tech gadgets, and as the length increases to 4.9 m and will officially enter the upper-middle class.

The range of engines will be opened by the new 1.5 TSI turbo petrol engine, in mild-hybrid versions with 150 and 180 hp, and the new 2.0 TDI turbodiesel, which is coming next year, will also play an important role. Both engines will comply with EU6d standards, which take effect in 2021. More powerful petrol will be the 2.0 TSI, available, in the power range up to 280 hp. All versions except the base ones will have a dual-clutch automatic transmission with seven gears, and the most powerful versions will be equipped with a 4 × 4 drive with a Haldex clutch.
