Amtrak California Zephyr Roomette

On board the California Zephyr, before it departs Chicago's Union Station for California. These roomettes are for 1-2 people, but even for a solo traveler such as myself, the space is rather small. The seats fold down completely flat into one bed, and in my case, there was no need for the top bunk to be folded down. Each superliner roomette car has its own attendant, who will come by each roomette in the evening to fold down the seats into the bed. In the morning, the attendant will come by (usually while roomette passengers are at breakfast in the dining car or showering downstairs of the superliner car) to fold it back up into seats. It's a rather complex process, especially for novice train travelers. Included in the price of a roomette is breakfast, lunch, dinner, and dessert for the duration of the train journey, which is 51 hours and 20 minutes. Restrooms are located just down the aisle from the roomette, as well as downstairs next to the showers, all on the superliner car. Bottled water and coffee are also included, and are located near the steps to go downstairs. Buying a roomette also grants you access to the spacious Metropolitan Lounge at Chicago's Union Station. Before you head to the platform for departure, you can relax there on couches, and enjoy the various amenities including coffee, fountain drinks, snacks, TV's, and charging stations. It is all worth the price paid for a roomette, as it undoubtedly provides the best value.
