Emotional Control: Act - Don't React.
As the outside temperatures spike, again, our own tempers can spike as well. In fact, it’s well known that hot summers themselves, often themselves cause hot tempers. We can become angry, depressed, hurt or rejected, and, and here’s the kicker, we can respond accordingly. And unfortunately, too often we respond in an emotional attack.
One of the greatest problems we have, time and again, is poor emotional control.
The set of social skills needed for self-control, especially for emotional control, is one of the greatest skill sets you can develop and will serve a person well all through life - in school, work, marriage, in all friendships, and within society - your community at large.
Did you ever scream, holler, argue or curse and then were sorry or even embarrassed afterwards? Did you ever wish that you had never "said those things?" Did you ever feel the remorse that comes from "crossing that line" and saying something that hurt someone else - especially someone you love or admire and would "never hurt?" As importantly, did you ever have your anger or rage backfire on you, creating yet, more problems?
Feelings are very real and very human, and occasionally they become intense and very powerful. The key is to control our feelings so they do not control us - so they do not control our thoughts, words, attitudes and behaviors.
This video explores emotions and feelings, and provides concrete ways “to control our emotions so that they do not control us.”
