Notes:

Comfort zone Christianity is more about us than it is about Jesus.
Becoming more like Jesus always requires discomfort. We don’t grow when we’re comfortable.

“We are called to afflict the comfortable and comfort the afflicted.”

God calls us to comfort others, but the problem is that we would rather comfort ourselves.
Our ultimate comfort should not be dependent upon things or circumstances, but rather upon God.
He isn’t concerned with our comfort as much as He is our obedience.

Discomfort actually has the potential to help us grow closer to God and to depend on Him, and it allows Him to show Himself strong on our behalf.

God has a way of testing us, stretching us, and shaping us in uncomfortable ways — ways we would never choose for ourselves.
If we look at the word of God, Jesus often led His disciples out of their comfort zone and into uncomfortable — even dangerous — situations.

Matthew 14
This was an ultimate out-of-the-comfort-zone moment!

Jesus used discomfort to show His miraculous power that night.
When we obey God’s voice, take steps of faith outside of our comfort zone, and focus on Jesus, miracles can happen.

Jesus is our Comforter. When He calls us out of our comfort zone, He is not calling us to be comfortable in the situation; He’s calling us to be comfortable in Him in spite of the situation.

Throughout Scripture, God calls ordinary people to do big things—things outside their comfort zone.
Their obedience makes them extraordinary heroes. They simply did great things for God in obedience.

• Joshua
• Nehemiah
• Gideon
• Esther
• Mary
• Jesus
• The Uneducated Disciples
• Paul

What I find encouraging is that some of the people in the Bible made excuses, too.
They felt inadequate, timid, too young, or too unqualified. But they were obedient anyway.
They had their doubts and their fears, just like us. But they chose to do what God called them to do.

We have to make a decision to put our faith into action. The Bible says faith without works is dead. You can choose to be courageous, or you can choose to be comfortable.

There is always an action component to the call of God. Rarely can we stay where we are and do what we’ve always been doing and fulfill the call of God upon our lives.

If you act courageously, you will get more courage. God is with you, but He will only strengthen you when you take the step forward. You are a leader! Leadership is strengthened by acts of obedience. .

People say they want God to guide their footsteps, but they are not willing to move their feet! He can’t steer a parked car.

It is the action itself that creates the certainty. It is the courage to move and to change one’s thinking and one’s circumstances that creates the certainty.

It’s time to become “doers” of the Word.
