RG-26 or Model 26 .25 caliber pistol – with a reputation for being the worse of the “Junk-Guns” or “Saturday Night Specials of the 1970’s and 80’s. Still, some RG owners claim the title of “worse of the worst” is unfair. This is a comprehensive review of the RG-26. The German company Rohm, specializing in the manufacture of cheap revolvers, moved its production to Florida when small arms imports were banned in the U.S. in the late 1960’s. Several inexpensive semi-automatic pistols were developed including the RG-25, the RG-26, the Rohm RG8 blanks-only pistol and the larger Rohm RG42 .25 pistol. While the RG-26 appears on the surface to be a fairly cheap yet maybe adequately-made firearm, the reputation of the RG-26 included reports of repeated jams, cracked frames and a susceptibility to catastrophic safety failures. Is the claim that the RG-26 is the “worse of the worst” truly justified or an exaggeration? Includes a demonstration of disassembly and reassembly.
