As 2021 fades into the night, I'd like to take the time to remind everyone about themselves. The negativity consistently uploaded into our brains on a daily basis makes it easy to forget there are amazingly cool things out there. Our connection to media will always be there so please take a walk outside if the weather allows it and realize that life is more than just the digital connection we all share through technology. The synapses in your brain that fire when you hit that 360 no-scope in a video game are the same ones that fire when you feel the pleasant drizzle of rain on your skin.

Be aware of the artificial necessity created by the internet to always be connected. It's okay to not know what's going on with your favorite celebrities. It's okay to not know about the latest, greatest piece of technology the moment it is announced. Information overload is real, and it can be as dangerous as any other disorder if it isn't discovered in time. I see it all too often in my line of work; adults, teenagers, even children as young as nine years old will on the cusp of dying, display their addictive need to check their phones because they have lost the ability to exist without it. I understand we all have a dependency on our technology and that it isn't always a negative thing, but we should all recognize the danger of becoming a slave to our own creations and take breaks from them when our minds need to.

A goal of mine this coming year is to truly learn about the people around me and maybe even repair the connections I've admittedly assisted in breaking off. If this sounds a bit relatable, I challenge you to think about what it all means and challenge you once more to try and make the world around you a little bit more bearable.

Take care of yourselves because ultimately you are the only one who can truly advocate for you.
