Honourable Senator

Dear Senator,

The federal government under Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, has not met the threshold necessary to invoke the Emergencies Act. This law creates a high and clear standard for good reason: the Act allows the government to bypass ordinary democratic processes. This standard has not been met at this time. We expect the Senate and Members of Parliament to act accordingly in good faith, to challenge this edict in the coming days.

The standard for reasons to challenge government policy that adversely impacts Canadians has justifiably been met. The number of Canadians who feel that they are not being heard, continues to grow. The Prime Minister has demonstrated an unwillingness to cooperate, to listen and to respect the democracy that is the people of Canada. What he believed was a ‘small fringe minority” with ‘unacceptable views’ has shown itself to be the majority. The world is watching and listening to his unacceptable rhetoric: proclamations that violate hate speech laws and have gone uncensored by Members of Parliament and the Senate alike. Name calling is uncharacteristic of a Prime Minister. The words “racist, misogynist extremists” have offended every Canadian. The people of Canada are watching our elected officials refuse to hold Mr. Trudeau accountable for this breach of integrity, and grow into further breaches of power. Justin Trudeau has lost the confidence of the people of Canada.

Our Prime Minister may not be “calling in the military”, but he continues to target identifiable groups, groups that regardless of vaccine status, disagree with policies that continue to abuse federal and provincial power. Authorizing banks to unilaterally freeze accounts on the basis of suspicion alone, no court order required, with legal immunity is a violation of our democracy. The people of Canada realize how dangerous this is, particularly after our Prime Minister stated that an identifiable, categorized group should not be tolerated and “takes up space”. Is there a precedent for ‘disappearing’ a segregated group of people in our free first world country? What has our Prime Minister implied with those words?

Governments regularly deal with difficult situations, and do so using powers granted to them by democratically elected representatives. Federal Emergency orders should not be normalized. We are not under a physical foreign attack. These orders continue to threaten our democracy and our civil liberties.

With kind regards,

We all need to urgently write all senators to not approve the EMA. Here's a form letter with all senator email addresses you can copy or better yet, tweak slightly:
