THE MEERCAT

The meercat (Suricata suricatta) or meerkat, also known as a suricate, is a burrowing mammal belonging to the mongoose family (Herpestidae). Found in areas of southern and southwestern Africa, especially the Kalahari desert, the meerkat is famed for its characteristic upright posture, making it look like an alarmed sentry on the lookout for predators.
