LVT-4 - Landing Vehicle Tracked - Walkaround - Bevrijdingsmuseum Zeeland.
The LVT (officially designated as Landing Vehicle Tracked)
is an amphibious warfare vehicle and amphibious landing craft,
introduced by the United States Navy and United States Marine Corps. the LVT was designed by Developed by Donald Roebling
in 1935 as a civilian rescue vehicle called the Alligator.
Roebling was asked by the military to design a more seaworthy
model for military use which would be a cargo carrier for ship to shore operations, they evolved into assault troop and fire support vehicles.
Production would start on July 1941 and the first LVT-1 would be a easily produced design.
The production would lead to the LVT-2.3.4, Buffalo and other developments.
The United States Army, Canadian Army and British Army used several LVT models during World War II,.
The LVT would see action in the Pacific and Europe. It would mostly see action in the Pacific and in
Europe, LVTs were mainly used for landings and river crossing operations
as well as assaults in swampy zones. By the end of 1943,
200 LVT-1s had been delivered to the British Army for training in
preparation for future operations in Europe.
The U.S., British, and Canadian armies used the Buffalo
in the 1944 Battle of the Scheldt.
The would also see action in the Korean War and would be used by some countries after the war.
The LVT-4 in the Bevrijdingsmuseum Zeeland, in the Netherlands,
has no historical information but it's one of the two in the collection of the museum and the only one on display.
This LVT with the nickname Falconer was restored in 2019 and replaced the second LVT nicknamed the Spider inside the new museum building in 2020.
Because the LVT nicknamed Spider is in running condition the Falconer was restored for static display with it's engine outside.
