[PRESS RELEASE] Tamara Lich, leader of the truckers for #FreedomConvoy, and the Hon. Brian Peckford, last-living co-author of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, held a press conference today in the face of PM Justin Trudeau's desire to invoke the never-used Emergencies Act.

Lich and Peckford stated that the truckers are exercising their Constitutional Right to peaceful assembly and peaceful civil disobedience. In essence, Lich reiterated that the truckers are going nowhere.

The Act gives the federal government extraordinary 30-day powers to ban public assembly, travel and the use of specific property. Ottawa could also designate protected places and force tow-truck companies to lend their trucks to the government to clear the roads--something that tow-truck drivers have publicly stated that they refuse to do in solidarity with #FreedomConvoy2022. Sources say Trudeau's government does not intend to use the Act to call in the army for now.
