A town in Silicon Valley has declared itself a “mountain lion habitat” as a move to stop new affordable housing construction projects.

Woodside, California’s town council paused all housing projects started under the Senate Bill 9, a new state law that allows up to four housing units to be built in a single-family lot.

Council members decided to block the building of new housing units after a January petition in support to turn Woodside into a habitat for mountain lions was brought to the town council, according to a memo.
