Pond snapper is a marine fish from the snapper family originating from the Indian and western Pacific Ocean regions, from East Africa to Australia. This fish has an elongated and flat body, the rows of teeth do not extend backwards in the middle. The curves of his cheekbones stood out clearly. The dorsal fin sometimes has a broad dark gray or brown border, while the tail fin is black. In some areas in Indonesia, this fish is known by names such as Salawau, Semerah, or Sumpehlea. In Malaysia it is known as Tanga or Ungar. While in the United States, this fish is known as Kakaka, To'au, Flametail snapper or Blacktail snapper because of its blackish tail. While in Japan it is known as Okifuedai, in the Philippines as Bambangin, in Thailand as Pla kapong dang and in Vietnam as Cá Hồng trơn. This fish is found in mangroves or seaweed areas.
