Why Mentors Are Important

I could have probably talked for hours about the importance of having mentors in your life, but I just wanted to cover some "wavetops" in this video. I'm not the smartest guy in the world, and that is EXACTLY why I value mentors so much!

Finding a mentor is not an excuse for a mentee to just suck what they need out of an experienced individual. Conversely, being a mentor is not about just spoon-feeding your mentees information. The mentor/mentee relationship SHOULD be a mutually beneficial relationship to both parties. Unfortunately, this is very often not the case.

I can't even begin to count the times I've seen new investors say the following at one of our REIAs or post it on a real estate forum: "HELP! I'm a new investor who knows nothing and has nothing to give, but I need a mentor from whom I can sap as much as I can from, and then probably not even execute what my mentor instructed me to do, thus, wasting his/her time and resources."

Ok, so I may have embellished a little bit there, lol, but you get my point, right? If you come to the table with nothing to offer by taking up someone else's time, you aren't going to get anywhere. Knowledgeable and experienced investors are all to happy to help train and educate the next generation of investors, but their time is their most precious resource. They aren't necessarily expecting a quid pro quo relationship, but they want to know that any and all time and efforts they pour into their mentees is well spent. That the mentee will execute on what they are taught, and that they have the potential to become an asset to the mentor down the line.

We all have mentors in our lives. What I want to stress to you all is that you do your damndest to provide as much value to your mentors as they provide to you. It won't be a "like" exchange, because their experience in a specific industry will most likely far-exceed yours. However, that doesn't mean you don't bring anything to the table. Find what value YOU can bring to the table and you will have more mentors than you will know what to do with, haha!

Here's to your WEALTH!
