You can open and close that fridge all you want, but that's not going to fill it up! Here's all the reactions, grunts, and grumbles when your Sims come to an empty refrigerator.

When your Sims have no money, there will not be any food in the fridge. The only thing that will fill the fridge up is money in the household's bank account. So as long as your Sims have over $5 (the price of a snack), the fridge will stay full.
